George St Pierre Mindset of a Champion

George St Pierre

I’m really into UFC and one of my dreams is to watch UFC live up close and personal.  I would love to be friends with some of the fighters and as a Canadian would love to be cool with George St Pierre.  The reason I love GSP is not only his capabilities as a fighter but his mindset as a champion.  I really do believe you can carry his same principles and disciplines into any avenue and be ultra successful.

When GSP has a fight coming up to defend his belt, he doesn’t think of it as him defending his belt, but more that he is fighting for the belt again.  He completely removes himself as the champion and positions himself as a need for self improvement.  He so disciplined in his art that he studies every obstacle of the up coming battle and notes down strengths and weaknesses of his opponents, and works rigorousness for months working with the best people possible to assure he comes out with a solid game plan to win.

George St. Pierre’s work ethic is second to none as he conditions his body and mind to the right level and beyond to win.  In his mind he plays out every angle of the fight.  He knows exactly what his opponent thinks, how he moves, what his reactions are, his fears, to a point where he knows his opponent better then his opponent knows himself.  He does everything possible physically to get ready for the fight, but it is driven from the power of within.

His mindset he replays the fight over and over in his own theater of his mind so vividly that he is training his body how to react when the time comes.  In his mind he wins this fight over and over again.  This increases GSP’s self-esteem, confidence, so that when he enters that octagon he is ready mentally and physically.  Every fighter is a challenge and even though most times his opponents come into the fight ranked an underdog, he doesn’t let that effect his thinking.

To think that any opponent is a walk in the park is nonsense to him.  Every fighter is dangerous and should be taken seriously.  Mentally he is conditioned to know to be ready in any situation, and this is what brought him to be a champion in fighting and in life.  But even GSP has weaknesses, but not very few, there is a way that he improves himself to not only keep himself as a champion but to cement his legacy.

In mixed martial arts you can’t just win being good at one discipline of fighting and George St. Pierre knows this all to well.  So to become the complete athlete he aligns himself with professionals and the best in every art to better himself in every area.  He rolls around with the Gracies to get greater at BJJ and boxes with Freddie Roach to knock people out.  He knows to be the best you need to learn from the experts and that’s how you become a champion.  That is why GSP is so dangerous because the tools that he brings to the table are a laundry list.

GSP also takes it to the next level training with high level sprinters to have more speed and explosiveness.  Imagine if you took this discipline to what you did.  Every morning starts off with personal development and ends with it as well.  Aligning yourself with the best mentors, trainers, and developing your skill set in every area.  Reading and learning from the experts, aligning yourself with the best, and taking yourself to the next level like George St. Pierre.

There is no stopping a champion with a discipline so great to succeed like GSP.  Knowing what you need to do and actually doing it is two entirely different things.  Once you start taking what you do seriously and not as a hobby is when things start changing and you too can reap the rewards of true success.

George St. Pierre is an inspiration to me as a champion.  His drive and determination are contagious and is the modelling I have taken to make myself a champion as well.  Keep this in mind though that GSP started at the bottom as a unknown fighter and worked his way up to become a champion.  He started out with a goal to work towards and figured out ways to get to where he is now.  Just as anyone who is extremely successful started off from the bottom and found there way through having the mind of a champion.
