How I Became a Master Grant Writer With Zero Education

I started my business Powwow Times as a Youtube channel. I wanted to share my culture with the world and reach a billion people with our content. What I would do is go to events and record content of Powwows around my area and post them to our social media.

We quickly grew to millions of views and a modest youtube income. This would be our base income which was only a few hundred dollars per month. It was a start to our business but nothing near enough where I could go full time.

As our Youtube channel started to grow, it started to help me as a Powwow dancer to start get gigs. This is where people were hiring me to go dance at their gathering or event. It was my first real income I had as a self employed person that could fully pay for my rent, food, and bills without relying on a 9-5 job.

As I started to go theses events that I was hired to go dance and perform at, I noticed there was always a person who was paying all of us artists. I thought that was interesting and asked myself, how do i be that person?

I wanted to be that person who was paying artists and being a blessing in their lives.

This question kept occupying my mind and all I could keep thinking about was how to be the person who pays other artists. I found out that I could be the person who runs events, workshops, and more and I could invite artists to come deliver their art and be able to pay them.

I found out that grants were available to business owners like you and I and they weren’t just for serving homeless people or people in need. In fact there is a grant for almost everything.

There are grants for:

  • Learn AI
  • For hosting and putting on gatherings
  • For personal development
  • For advertising
  • For language
  • For buying business equipment
  • For travel
  • For buying buildings and homes
  • For hiring staff
  • For growing your business
  • For agriculture

I found out there is literally a grant out there to help your business grow that many business owners had no idea existed. The hard part was there wasn’t really any training on writing and applying for grants. The ones that I did find were long, boring, and could make you sleep.

Nevertheless, I would sit and watch these long boring videos on grant writing. I would attempt to apply for my few grants and got denied many times. I thought there was some sort of secret grant writing language that I could not decipher.

After probably a year and half of applying for grants, I finally got one. It was a $25,000 grant to get fat bikes and start a biking program with our community. I was so happy and excited because I was able to secure a bunch of fat bikes and electric bikes that we still use as a community till this day.

Then I started to win these grants that were once so hard to get….started to become very easy.

I won another grant for $15,000 to host a National Indigenous Day event and for the first time I was able to hire artists to come and I was able to pay them and become a blessing in their lives. I was so happy to do this.

The next step I wanted to do was host an even bigger event. Because our business was around Powwow, I thought it would be natural for our business to host a Powwow.

So I applied for a grant and I got a $87,000 grant to help me host our first Powwow.

I couldn’t believe that I was able to do this and deliver this. We were just a small YouTube channel called Powwow Times and here we are hosting a $150,000 event from a Youtube Channel that was making like $400 per month.

From this point I started to get a handle on grant writing and learned that it is actually easier than I thought it was. I started to get funded for all our ideas.

It was $30,000 for this, $50,000 for that, and $200,000 for another idea. Suddenly our small Youtube business grew to heights that I could only dream about. Now I’m able to have ideas funded that will help my business grow to new heights with the help that is out there for everyone that wants to use it to grow and expand.

Myth One: You Have to Be an Expert to Win Grants?

You don’t need to be an expert to win grants for your business. You don’t need a diploma to win grants or go to college for it. You also don’t need to read 100s of books on the subject of grant writing. You can be a complete newbie and start get funding for your business even if you never written a grant before in your life.

Myth Two: You Need a Certain Grant Writing Language

I used to think there is a certain language you have to know in order to win grants. I thought you had to sound super smart or write things in a certain way to win grants. The truth is that there is no secret language you need to know. You need a very simple language like how a grade 5 student would write. All the grant review committee needs is to understand clearly what it is you are trying to accomplish.

Myth Three: It’s Hard to Write Grants

Anything that you start for the first time feels very hard to do. Sometimes it feels like going inside an aircraft and seeing all those buttons and lights in the cockpit and wondering what the heck all of these do if you never flew an airplane before. That is how grant writing may seem, you don’t know where to start or even how to start. With the proper guidance and our 3 step system, it will become clear how easy it is to win grants.

Myth Four: It Takes Weeks or Months to Write and Win Grants

Yes the process for grants usually takes a few months before you get a decision whether you won the grant or not. That part is true, the other side to this coin is that it doesn’t have to take weeks or months to write a grant. In fact is can be done over a weekend. Then you can focus on other grants to apply for a new one each week. With this strategy you can bring serious funding for your business to grow and scale.

Myth Five: Grants Are Only For Non-Profits and For People In Dire Need Like Homeless and Starving

This is a HUGE myth because there is grants for almost everything. I found grants that will pay you to go to conferences around the world. I found grants that will buy you an Electric Vehicle. I found grants that will help you buy equipment for your business. I found grants to buy a home or multi family home. Grants are not just for homeless or starving people, its for business owners that want to grow their business.

Part One: Creating Your Profile for Grants

Okay lets get started on winning grants. For every grant the grant wants to know who you are and what your business is about. If you create a company profile, this can be made once and used for every grant you apply for in the future. The profile is like a resume a you would give to employers to know about you.

In your profile you will have all the details you can about you or your business. The thing with all grants is they want to know about you and if you are a good fit for the grant. It can take you several hours filling in all this information over and over again each time you apply for a grant.

If you create a company profile, which you can do with ChatGPT, you can use this over and over again with every grant you apply for which will save you countless amount of hours moving forward. One document for every application that you can add things as you go.

Part Two: Projects that Serve

You are either in two categories. You have current projects that are a staple of your business. For example in my business we have a yearly Powwow. The Powwow is our project that we work on yearly. We know everything about the Powwow, we know the venue costs, staffing, volunteering, the prize money, marketing, and delivering all aspects of this project.

When I’m writing grants I know exactly how to present our Powwow Project because we’ve been doing it for years and now I can apply for funding for this project.

However in category two, there is other grants I know our company can get funding for but we currently don’t have a project for it. So we have to use our imagination or I need to model off of another business that is doing a project that is similar to ours and use that project for our company without copying it verbatim.

It’s your job to have a project or create a project that you want to do for your business. My advice that it should not add a bunch of additional work for your business where you are spread to thin. You want the projects to enhance or grow your business and create a project profile much like you did with your company profile.

Part Three: Feed The Machine

Now that you have your company profile and project profile, and you know the grant that fits within your industry.

Now all you have to do is go to ChatGPT and give it all the information. When you do this, ChatGPT now know everything about your company, your project, and the grant.

With this information you can craft a winning proposal using the power of A.I.

Tell ChatGPT that you are applying for this grant, here is your company profile and project details. ChatGPT will then go through all the information and tell you which angle you need to proceed at.

Now feed ChatGPT all the questions for the grant in the application and ChatGPT will help you answer those questions based on everything you fed it. It will match your company + project with the grant to craft amazing answers. You will have such a great proposal for the grant that it will take you about an hour or two to finish up.

Then when you are done, double check all the work and submit.

The Complete Grant Writing System

Thats all you have to do.

Create a profile for your company and project. If you need help with this, spend an hour or two with ChatGPT and create this for yourself.

Then find a grant with a simple Google Search within your area or federally that is within your industry. Feed that grant to ChatGPT along with your company and project and then simply apply with all the information in one spot.

Now with this simple 3 step system you can start getting funding for your ideas. You can start scaling your business to new heights. You can start making major impacts in your community and solve a lot of problems.

So you can go two paths.
