Every year, millions of us dive into January with big dreams and ambitious resolutions. But let’s be honest—how often do those resolutions actually stick?

Have you ever set a New Year’s resolution, gone all in for a few weeks, only to burn out completely? Maybe you pledged to hit the gym daily, start a strict diet, or tackle a financial goal. Yet, despite your best efforts, you found yourself slipping back into old habits.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. The problem isn’t that your goals are too hard—it’s your approach. Most people try to force change when what they truly need is to shift their identity.

The Secret to Lasting Change: Identity Shifting

When I first learned about the concept of identity shifting, it completely changed the game for me. James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits, explains it perfectly: lasting change doesn’t come from what you do, but from who you are.

For example:

  • You don’t just work out occasionally. You become someone who works out.
  • You don’t just diet. You become someone who eats healthy.

This mindset shift is the key to real, sustainable transformation. So, if you’re ready to become the person who naturally achieves their goals, let’s explore how to make that happen.

Why Change Feels So Hard

Have you ever wondered why lasting change feels so challenging? Deep down, you know you’re capable of more, right?

What if the secret isn’t in trying harder, but in becoming someone new? Imagine a life where your goals align effortlessly with your identity. Think about the people you admire—the ones who seem to naturally live the life you want. Their secret isn’t just discipline; it’s identity. They don’t try to eat healthy—they are simply the kind of person who eats healthy. They don’t try to work out—they’re a gym enthusiast through and through.

For years, I struggled with big goals because I approached them the wrong way. I tried to force change, diving headfirst into massive action: working out an hour a day, cutting carbs, or trying to save half my income. Inevitably, it became too hard to sustain, and I quit.

When I discovered identity shifting, everything changed. Instead of focusing on what I wanted to do, I focused on who I wanted to become. I became a student of success, health, and wealth. I started small, building habits that aligned with my new identity. Over time, those habits grew—and so did I.

Now, I want to share the exact process I used to make this life-changing shift.

The 3 Secrets to Shifting Your Identity

1. Make It a Study

Want to transform your body? Study health and fitness. Want to grow your income? Dive into books, courses, and podcasts about money, investing, and business. Immerse yourself in the knowledge and mindset of the identity you want to adopt.

When you learn about something deeply, it starts to shape how you see yourself and the world around you.

2. Start Small

Big changes often fail because they’re overwhelming. Instead, start tiny.

  • Want to work out? Commit to just five minutes a day.
  • Want to eat healthier? Swap one snack for a piece of fruit or a veggie.
  • Want to improve your finances? Start by saving just one dollar a day.

It’s not about intensity—it’s about consistency. Small wins reinforce your new identity, creating a foundation for bigger changes.

3. Scale Gradually

Once you’ve built small habits, it’s time to scale them.

  • Extend your workouts to 10, 20, or even 30 minutes.
  • Save more money each week.
  • Experiment with advanced strategies in fitness, nutrition, or investing.

By gradually increasing the intensity and duration of your habits, you’ll solidify your new identity and unlock greater results.

From Struggle to Transformation

This approach has transformed my life. I’ve achieved better health, more consistent habits, and even the biggest paydays of my career. And I know it can do the same for you.

Stop setting resolutions that don’t stick. Instead, shift your identity and become the person who naturally achieves their goals.
